Writer and photographer, Connie Springer’s exhibit, Positively Ninety, Interviews with 28 Lively Nonagenarians is a part of a larger artistic project Connie has been working on since 2007. This exhibit includes interviews and photographs of 28 “lively” nonagenarians.
When asked what her definition of a nonagenarian act
ually is, Springer replied, “As most people know, a nonagenarian is a person who has lived into his or her 90s – and based on having interviewed 28 lively nonagenarians, I would say it’s a person who can age with gusto.”
Connie’s quest to learn about how people in their 90s continue to lead resourceful and meaningful lives began three years ago. She was a seasoned staff writer and photographer for a community magazine, Hyde Park Living, and was on the lookout for interesting live stories when a friend suggested that she interview her remarkably energetic and agile 90-year old neighbor, June Edwards. Edwards, a former social worker, created and tended an elaborate flower garden outside her apartment building in Oakley, had a regular regimen of yoga, line dancing, and Tai Chi as well as reading and keeping up with current events.
The idea meshed perfectly with Springer’s need to
explore and put to rest her own skewed view of aging after experiencing her mother’s heart rending descent into dementia and decline after the death of Springer’s father.
Springer’s interview and photography session with June Edwards lead to a City of Cincinnati Artist’s Grant to complete the body of work now titled Positively Ninety.
“What’s wonderful about what you’ve done,” the daughter of one nonagenarian told Springer, “is that you make old people look beautiful as well as important. “ After interviewing 28 “lively nonagenarians” Springer observed many of the same personality traits exhibited in each individual. Included in the exhibit is a component she calls “20 Personality Traits of Lively Nonagenarians”.
The exhibit will be on display until August 6th.

NICOTINE BEES
All over the world, at the same time, with the same bizarre behaviors, bees simply leave their precious honey and young behind. They don't come home. This movie gets to the truth about why the honey bees of the world are in big trouble, and why our food supply is in trouble with them. Filmed on 3 continents to find out the reason bees are in catastrophic decline - and why many people don't want the real story to be told. With the continuing bee collapse, one third of our food supply is at risk - despite the clear-cut scientific data news reports continue to call the phenomenon "mysterious." We think this crisis is not mysterious. Nicotine Bees is ready to show what has happened.
