The Oxford Community Arts Center offers a variety of adult art/drawing classes.

Drop-In registration is available at the Reception office on day of class.

Watercolor Painting AM

AGES: 18+ | Instructor: Howard Krauss

Practice basic watercolor techniques, including value, focal points, composition, and brush strokes. Each class is a completed painting. For all experience levels - beginner artists included! Supplies not included.
No class July 5.

Basic Drawing

Learn to draw from observation and imagination. Concepts covered include line, shape, value, shading, and composition. Students will need a sketchbook and a small range of pencils.

Advanced Drawing

AGES: 18+ | Instructor: Joe Prescher

Investigate approaches to figure drawing across mediums, including drawing, cartooning, illustration, and fine arts. Practice building a figure through anatomy, gesture, and shape-based approaches. Students will need a sketchbook and a small range of pencils.
No class July 6

For students who have taken Basic Drawing or have advanced knowledge.

When:  Wednesday, 6:30 - 8 pm

Figure Drawing Group

AGES: 18+ | Instructor: Joe Prescher

Practice figure drawing in two-hour sessions with live nude and semi-nude models.  Instructor provides expert advice on solving composition, perspective, drawing, and technical issues with positive and encouraging comments about how to improve your work. Supplies not included.
No class July 7.

Traditional Hand-Hooked Rugs (Short Course)

AGES: 18+ | Instructor: Tracy Burns

Learn one of the oldest forms of fiber art, using cut fabric hooked through a linen backing. Traditional Rug Hooking is a fiber folk art of the 1850s and differs from latch hook, locker hooking or punch needle.

Participants are provided all supplies: a hand-drawn pattern with printed instructions, a rug hook, wool kit, linen backing, wood frame, and photo of finished product.

Re-Sculpture Kids

Participants explore how found objects, recycled materials, and second-hand ready-made elements can be revitalized through sculpture and given a new life. Emphasis on arts accessibility through exploration of free and low-cost materials, as well as sustainability through repurposing items that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

Participants get an OCAC t-shirt.

When:  Saturday, 10 – 11:30 am
Dates:  June 18 to July 23 (6 weeks)

Participants learn about public art and work together to propose a public artwork that solves a problem, serves a community, or brings attention to an issue that is important to them. Participants have the opportunity to gain problem-solving skills and experience the process of advocacy through a public artwork that will be installed in the Oxford community. This course includes walking trips!
No class July 6.
