Sponsored by The Elms Hotel, Second Friday is a local celebration of the arts beginning at 6 pm on the second Friday of each month. This free event includes:

  • New art exhibitions opening reception
  • Open 3rd Floor Studios
  • Open ArtShop
  • Live music sponsored by Jack and Sally Southard.


Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is a Scripps Gerontology Center intergenerational art program for people with dementia that is aimed at promoting their social engagement, autonomy, and dignity through the experience of creative self-expression.

OMA artists from The Knolls of Oxford, the Oxford Adult Day Services, Premier Estates of Oxford, and Woodland Country Manor, along with Miami University students will host the opening reception and silent auction. This 11th annual exhibition with a silent auction runs from April 13-May 4, 2018.

 HOXIE – Three Generations of Photography

This exhibit represents three generations of Hoxies as photographers and artists. George Richmond Hoxie (1907-1984) opened his studio in the late 40s to become a well known Oxford and Miami portrait photographer and artist, submitting his artwork worldwide and gaining significant recognition. The selection of original photographs covers his many years, styles and themes…all in black and white.







Rehugnant Jazz Quartet

Rehugnant is a quartet that fuses jazz, funk, and rock music. Keyboardist Dave Palmer hails from State College, PA, and has studied piano, music theory, and composition extensively. He currently plays jazz, rock, and church music in the Cincinnati-Oxford-Dayton area.

Guitarist and vocalist Ralph Jones is from Dayton. He teaches guitar and voice in jazz and contemporary styles and has performed with Maynard Ferguson, Slide Hampton, Bob Mintzer, Donald Byrd, Idris Muhammad, and Jaki Byard.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Ian Borg is an audio engineer who has
played the drums for nearly 40 years, usually playing progressive
Rock and jazz fusion with latin, swing, and be-bop influences. He
has lived in Dayton, Ohio since 2012 and has a professional audio
business there.

Bassist Kerry Jordan is from Cincinnati Ohio. He has an extensive background as a session musician and sideman playing for such artists as Millie Jackson's Facts of Life group, Barrington Henderson (formerly of the Temptations), Pamela "Saxtress" Williams and Phil Perry to name a few. He currently freelances and plays for several regional artists covering jazz, R&B, funk and gospel genres.
