Musical Snack #1: Sonata in E, K. 162 by Domenico Scarlatti

Sonata in E, K. 162, by Domenico Scarlatti, performed by Bruce
Murray at the Oxford Community Arts Center, Oxford, OH, during
pandemic summer 2020.

Wednesdays at noon wherever you are, take a break, a deep breath and enjoy a few minutes of exquisite music recorded in the beautiful ballroom of Oxford Community Arts Center.

Bruce Murray writes: "Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1759) started
writing "sonatas" at age 53 and produced nearly 600 of them over
twenty years. This piece is relatively well known because
Vladimir Horowitz made a remarkable recorded. It is a bit
unusual for Scarlatti in that it alternates slow and fast
sections; most sonatas have the same tempo and same basic
material throughout."

The music is in the public domain.

February Exhibits @ Oxford Community Arts Center
Feb 12 @ 11:00 am – Mar 8 @ 10:00 am

Come by to view the exhibits currently hung in our galleries.

Rick H. Jones - Landscape Paintings
My early paintings after grad school ranged from large-scale abstracts to abstract landscapes. I dabbled a little in realism by 1976, but more in imagery than attempting to pull the viewer into the work with a lot of detail as I do today. I focus on light and color and I work from reference photographs. I would much prefer to paint from life en plein air, but my work schedule at sixty hours a week just doesn’t permit it. Some of a landscape painter’s best work is done outdoors, especially quick studies to capture the moment in light, color and value.

Ursula Roma - Transformations
Wall art and sculptures portraying the changing form of objects to create unified images of imagined figures by Ursula Roma. Ursula Roma is a multi-media artist, designer, and sculptor who has lived in the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati for over 30 years, creating original paintings, sculpture, and metal designs for home and garden.

John Jude Windland - Fissure Shaft
John Jude Windland’s nearly 30-year project, Fissure Shaft, is a multimedia experiment looking to express complex emotional and intellectual matters unfettered from the most common form of communication, syntactic language. Mediums move from the tangible to the algorithmic.

Our Enchanted Winter Experience is open on our grounds until March 20, 2021.
Stroll through interactive experiences. Enjoy lights, make-your-own-postcard, poetry on the porch, interactive lights, wind chimes, mobiles, cozy trees, and more.

Jim Burns: Guitar and Vocals.
Jim has worked with top national acts in Nashville and toured all over the United States. He’s a family man, gifted artist, and all-around good guy.

Dwayne Fisher: Bass and Backup Vocals.
Dwayne is a multi-instrumentalist who is an active performer in his church. A reserved, but quintessential component to the JBB.

Ed Krehbiel: Percussion.
Ed is a longtime Oxford resident and friend of the OCAC. He’s recently been having fun teaching his nephew, Louis, how to play the drums.
