Celebrate a new month of the fine and performing arts.

This month's exhibition features the weeyaakiteeheeyankwi neepwaantiiyankwi: Celebrating 50 Years of Learning from Each Other by the Myaamia Tribe. This year is the 50th anniversary of the relationship between the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Miami University. The City of Oxford and Miami University are located in the traditional homelands of the Myaamia people. Sharing a common name and place, the connection between the University and the Tribe has evolved into a multi-layered collaboration built on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to education. Like a fire, carefully tended over time, this connection has the power to illuminate a path towards a healthy future. The exhibit will celebrate the relationship between the Miami Tribe and Miami University through photography from Myaamia community members and Myaamia Center Staff, contemporary art from Myaamia students and alumni, and an exploration of the outcomes of this evolving relationship.

The musical performance at 7:30 PM will be the beloved Lisa Biales and Doug Hamilton. Singer-songwriter Biales sings from the heart and writes playful music about the simple things in life. She weaves a down home blues vernacular with finger style acoustic guitar to create songs that feel like they have been around forever. Hamilton is a classically trained improvising violinist whose 40-year career has seen him share the stage with artists as diverse as Barbara Mandrell, Tricia Yearwood, Jo El Sonnier and Victor Wooten. Doug is drawn to the improvisational possibilities found in the styles of folk, blues and jazz.

As always, browse one-of-a-kind art for sale in The Art Shop from 6-9 pm and meet the Resident Artists in their 3rd Floor studio spaces to learn more about their work. We can’t wait to celebrate the arts with you!
