Chocolate Meltdown 2027: The Art of Decadence

Summary: Artists of all ages are invited to submit work for "The Art of Decadence," a special exhibition presented by the Oxford Community Arts Center in collaboration with Miami University's Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum. The exhibition coincides with Chocolate Meltdown on Saturday, January 9, 2027.

Deadline: Submissions must be received by December 13, 2026. Selected artwork must be delivered to the OCAC on Tuesday, January 5, 2027, between 10 AM and 8 PM.

Medium: All media, including the written word, will be considered. Chocolate-themed artwork is encouraged but not required. Submissions demonstrating creativity and diverse concepts, materials, or techniques will receive priority.

Submission Guidelines: Artists may submit up to two original works that have not been previously submitted. Entries will be accepted in two categories: Youth (under 18) and General (18+). Every effort will be made to exhibit all entries.

Exhibition Dates: January 9 – February 8, 2027, at the Oxford Community Arts Center.

The exhibition opens in conjunction with Chocolate Meltdown on Saturday, January 9, 2027.

Toni Morrison Celebration Event

Connection in Place: Exploring, Interpreting, and Exploding the Themes of Sula

Summary: As part of the statewide, year-long celebration of Ohio native and Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, the Oxford Community Arts Center and the Public Arts Commission of Oxford (PACO) invite artists and creators to submit original work inspired by the themes of Morrison's novel Sula. Explore connections to people, place, community, memory, and possibility through visual art, writing, music, performance, or any other creative expression. You do not need to have read Sula to participate.

Please Note: Email submissions to oxfordcelebratestonimorrison@gmail.com, including the artist's name, phone number, email address, and a brief description of the work. Questions about submissions or the project should also be directed to this address.

Deadline: Submissions must be received by December 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST.

Medium: All creative forms are welcome, including painting, drawing, photography, collage, sculpture, poetry, prose, drama, monologues, spoken word, dance, movement, original music, song, film, video, animation, puppetry, multimedia, and interdisciplinary work.

Artists and creators of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to participate.

Submission Guidelines: Original work should explore connections between people and the places they call home. Inspired by the themes of Sula, submissions might consider:

♦  How relationships shape, and are shaped by, our communities
♦  How people and communities grow together or grow apart
♦  A moment from the past you wish you could revisit
♦  A vision of what a community might become
♦  A mistake or regret and what might have happened differently
♦  A question about the people and places around us
♦  A memory, experience, or story connected to a particular place
♦  The ways communities change, stay the same, or change all at once

Submissions do not need to directly interpret Sula or explain Toni Morrison's work. All submissions must be suitable for presentation, performance, reading, or viewing in 10 minutes or less.

Selected artists and creators will be invited to share or perform their work during the Toni Morrison Celebration Event. Selected visual artwork will be displayed during the event.

MONTHLY OPPORTUNITIES

Summary: Ready to create an exhibition at the Oxford Community Arts Center? If so, complete and return this fillable PDF--ARTIST(S) EXHIBITION PROPOSAL

Deadline: The Art Exhibitions Committee accepts proposals for individual or group exhibitions at any time throughout the year.

Medium: Any medium, genre, or style is accepted. Digital images of your work, indicating titles, dimensions, and media; an artist’s statement and artist’s resume are required at the time of submission.

Exhibition Spaces: The OCAC exhibition space consists of three areas on the First Floor:
♦  Browsing Gallery: about 100 linear feet in the south hallways
♦  South Parlor: about 60 linear feet
♦  South Gallery (our 3D art space): about 40 linear feet and about 200 square feet

New exhibits open on the second Friday of each month.
Artists and artworks are featured on Oxford Community Arts Center's social media accounts.

OUTDOOR INSTALLATIONS

Summary: The OCAC seeks proposals for site-specific, temporary public art that will enliven the College Avenue neighborhood. OCAC encourages proposals for incisive, surprising, and unique sculptures appropriate for a general audience and which will be exhibited on the grounds of the OCAC. The work will be installed for three months and will rotate quarterly.

Exhibition Dates: Ongoing

Eligibility Requirements: Open to artists in the southwest Ohio area.

Special Notes: Proposals for works that prompt visitors to return multiple times to experience changes in the piece are encouraged.

ART EXHIBITIONS

Thank you for your interest in exhibiting your artwork at the Oxford Community Arts Center. We have several opportunities each year for artists to exhibit with us.

The Art Exhibitions Committee coordinates ongoing Artist Proposals, solicits specific Calls For Art, and oversees the selection process for all exhibitions.

Philosophy: The Art Exhibitions Committee is dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of art, with a particular focus on artwork created by local artists from Oxford, OH, and the surrounding areas. Originality is the highest priority. Suitability for the space will also be a consideration.
